COLORADO SPRINGS - The University of Colorado tennis team enjoyed another successful day on day two of the United States Air Force Invitational winning seven of eight doubles matches and six of seven singles matches, Saturday afternoon.
Day three of the tennis invite begins with singles play beginning at 9 a.m.
CU's trio of singles players were successful in all three of their semifinal matches to reach the final of their respective bracket. Monica Milewski defeated Sophia Bergner of Denver, 6-4, 6-1 in the Alpha-I bracket; Abbie Probert defeated Melissa Cecil of Air Force, 6-1, 6-3 in the Bravo-2 bracket; and in the Golf-7 bracket semifinal, Allison Wahba defeated Michaela Oldani (New Mexico) 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.
It was Wahba's second straight three set win in as many days.
Milewski's triumph was her 71st of her career tying for 16th place on the school's all-time singles list, while Probert, won her second match in as many days after receiving a first round bye on Friday.
In round robin singles play, Madie Kern won her second match of the tournament defeating Eliane Bourdages of New Mexico, 6-1, 6-3.
Earlier in the day in doubles, it will be an all-CU final in the Doubles I bracket on Sunday. Milewski and Michala Hedelund Jensen defeated Fuchs/Du Toit of Oregon, 8-2 and Probert/Ania Anuszkiewicz edged Dake/Chermel of Air Force, 8-5. It will be the second straight fall tournament where CU will represent the main draw doubles final. Last week at the CU Invite, Esposito and Camila Belassi defeated an Arkansas team.
"I'm happy with the results we've had in doubles considering we are trying out new teams," head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Overall, the ladies are doing a great job in tough situations. So far, it's been a good weekend and we're looking forward to day three on Sunday."
In the Doubles III consolation bracket, the team of Kern and Wahba won a pair to reach Sunday's back draw final. The CU sophomores defeated Durie/Bourdages (New Mexico) and Peters/Occhipinti (Illinois State), by identical 8-4 scores in the quarters and semis, respectively.
