LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A trio of University of Colorado women's tennis players advanced to the Round of 64 with straight set victories on the first day of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regional, Wednesday at Las Vegas.
Camila Belassi, Melisa Esposito and Monica Milewski all earned first round byes in the Round of 128 field, then successfully won their Round of 64 match.
Belassi defeated New Mexico State's Natalia Salum; 6-2, 6-1; Esposito eased past Paloma Navarro of Wyoming, 6-1, 6-1; and Milewski edged Hannah Dake of the Air Force Academy, 6-3, 7-5. All three move into Thursday's Round of 32.
Abbie Probert was the lone CU player that failed to advance on the first day, falling to Utah State's Hailey Swenson, 6-2, 6-1.
All four singles players will play Thursday, in addition to their doubles competition. Belassi/Esposito and Milewski/Probert will play their first doubles matches Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, Milewski remained unbeaten in fall play picking up her eighth straight win. The victory moves her into a tie for 13th on the school's all-time singles wins list with 73.
Esposito won her fourth match of the season in five attempts, also earned her 65th career triumph, as did Belassi, evening her fall mark at three, as she won her 58th of her career.
