Buffs Stay In Top 10 of National Poll

BOULDER The University of Colorado men’s and women’s cross country teams fell in the USTFCCCA Coaches Top 30 poll on Tuesday after each recorded a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. The CU men fell one spot to fifth while the women dropped three positions from No. 3 to No. 6.

The Buffalo men collected 315 points in the poll for their No. 5 ranking and are just three points out of fourth place. Northern Arizona took that spot with 318 points. The Buffs placed all five scorers in the top 15 to earn All-Big 12 honors on Saturday, but Oklahoma State took the top four places, as well as 14th to claimed its second straight title. Stanford remained the top team in the poll. The Cardinal earned all 12 first-place votes to take the top honor with 360 points. OSU moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 with 343 points.

The CU women picked up 293 points in the poll for their sixth-place ranking. The Buffs improved to second at this year’s Big 12 Championship and are still ranked higher than the winner, Texas Tech, which came in eighth this week. Washington took 10 of 12 first-place votes on the women’s side to take 357 points. Villanova, the second-place team, recorded the other two votes and took 350 points.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are ranked second in the region.

The Buffs are off this weekend and will continue their postseason competition on Saturday, November 14, at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship in Albuquerque, N.M.
