IRVING, Texas - The University of Colorado women's soccer team has placed seven of its team members on this year's Academic All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Seniors Kelly Menachof (integrative physiology), Nikki Marshall (sociology), and Ally Goodman (sociology/ communication), along with junior Kelly Ross (international affairs/political science) and sophomore Kelly Butler (psychology) were named first team Academic All-Big 12, while senior Kara Linder (integrative physiology) and junior Amanda Foulk (journalism) were named to the second team.
Menachof was one of just 11 players nominated that have maintained a 4.00 grade point average throughout their career. Nebraska and Oklahoma State led the league with 14 selections each.
Marshall and Goodman are on the list for the second-straight straight year, while Menachof, Ross, Butler, Linder and Foulk are making their first appearance.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the sports information offices, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 84 first team members combined with 19 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
