Volleyball Set to Host Kansas

BOULDER— The University of Colorado volleyball team will host Kansas on Wednesday, November 4, at the Coors Events Center. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.

 

FSN Rocky Mountain will televise the match live. Drew Goodman will handle the play-by-play duties while Alanna Rizzo will report from the sidelines. Former CU head volleyball coach Pi’i Aiu will assist Goodman as he will provide the color commentary for the contest.

 

The first 250 fans will get a free hot dog and soda and Bank of the West will hand out 100 CU plush bears to the first 100 fans 13 and under. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at CUBuffs.com, by calling 303-492-8337 or at the door.

 

Colorado enters the match with a 6-16 overall record and is 1-12 in the Big 12. The Buffs are looking to snap a five-match losing streak as they entertain a 12-10 Kansas Jayhawks’ team. KU is 4-8 in the league. CU is 2-7 at the CECC this season while the Jayhawks are 3-4 on the road and are just 2-4 in conference play. The Buffs fell in three sets to Kansas on September 30 in Lawrence, Kan. CU owns the all-time series 34-13.

 

Becah Fogle leads Colorado offensively averaging 3.19 kills per set. Rosie Steinhaus and Kerra Schroeder rank second and third on the team with 2.79 and 2.56 kills per set, respectively. Kaitlyn Burkett has handed out 7.52 assists per set this year and is directing CU to a .154 attack percentage. She also owns the best individual hitting percentage on the team at .344 with 40 kills and just eight errors on 93 swings.

 

Katie Evanyo leads the Buffs with 2.46 digs per set and Fogle adds 2.36 digs per set. Nikki Kinzer has 57 blocks this season to lead the Buffs with .80 blocks per set. Rosie Steinhaus puts up .64 blocks per set to rank second for CU.

 

Kansas enters the match on Wednesday with a 1-2 record in the last three contests. The two losses came against Big 12 opponents Missouri (1-3) and No. 25 Texas A&M (1-3), while KU defeated UMKC on October 27 in three sets. All three matches were at home.

 

Karina Garlington is fifth in the Big 12 with 3.48 kills per set and Allison Mayfield ranks second for the Jayhawks with 3.44 kills per set. Nicole Tate is averaging 11.12 assists per set, which is third in the league, and is leading KU to a .217 attack percentage. 

 

Melissa Manda is averaging 4.16 digs per set and ranks seventh in the Big 12. Tate adds 2.55 digs per set. Taylor Tolefree is posting a team high .98 blocks per set and Paige Mazour adds .74 blocks per set.
