NEW ORLEANS – University of Colorado senior-to-be Laura Thweatt was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Women’s Track & Field team on Wednesday.
Thweatt is majoring in sociology and owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.369. The Durango, Colo. native has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll as well as the All-Academic Big 12 Track & Field first team.
During the 2010 season, Thweatt was one of three females to record points for CU at the indoor conference meet, placing seventh in the 5,000-meter run. She also led the Buffs with the fastest time of the season in the 5k at 16:34.33 [run at the Husky Classic on Feb. 13].
On the outdoor track, Thweatt also impressed as she became the ninth fastest performer in CU 800-meter run history after clocking a time of 2:11.35 at the CU Invite (4/10). She also recorded personal bests in the 1500 (4:25.27), 5k (16:11.55) and 10k (34:34.41). Thweatt competed in the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the 10k, finishing 34th overall.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event. In total 551 female athletes were named to the team.
