BOULDER -- The University of Colorado spirit squads announced Thursday new program offerings and extended tryout opportunities.
The cheerleaders, coached by Cheer Central, will be holding a fall tryout for the squad. The fall tryout will take place Sunday, August 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 660 Compton Road in Broomfield. All registration materials can be found at CheerCentralSuns.com (under teams/University of Colorado). If you have already attended a tryout, you don't need to fill out another packet, otherwise please have all the registration materials completed before tryouts.
CU will start the Junior Buffs Spirit Squad for all kids ages 13 and under. Emphasizing skill, self-confidence and enthusiasm, participants will get to train and perform with your very own CU Spirit Squad. Kids will receive a CU Junior Buffs Cheer uniform (skirt and shell), poms, a t-shirt, DVD's of each routine and an official certificate of participation at the end of the year.
The spirit squad will also host a competition for all local high school cheer and dance squads at the CU Spirit Showdown on Saturday, January 29 at the Coors Events Center. Registration and payment ($29 per participant) will be available soon on CUBuffs.com. The showdown will feature official UCA and UDA judges and serves as a great preparation for nationals. It is open to all 1A-5A Colorado high schools.
More information and sign up forms for both the Junior Buffs Spirit Squad and CU Spirit Showdown are available at CUBuffs.com.
The CU Spirit Squad consists of the Cheerleaders, the CU Express Dance Team and CU's mascot Chip. Chip has won back-to-back Mascot National Championships while the cheerleaders have place in the top 10 for 12 consecutive years at nationals and the CU Express Dance Team took third last year in a new division.
