CUBuffs.com will feature Q&As with several incoming freshmen throughout camp to acquaint Buff fans with CU’s newcomers. On Tuesday, Sports Information Student Assistant Niko Strzepek caught up with freshman wide receiver Markques Simas (pronounced Marcus See-Muss) after practice.

NS: How is camp going for you?

MS: It’s going alright; I’m just falling into a routine and feeling more comfortable.

NS: What are some differences you’ve felt between high school camps and college?

MS: ...It’s all day long.

NS: When did you start playing football?

MS: Young, around 7 or 8.

NS: Did you always want to play college ball?

MS: Actually, I wanted to be a basketball player, and that’s where I get my leaping ability from.

NS: Did you play basketball in high school?

MS: I played both basketball and football. Basketball helped with my footwork and coordination.

NS: What other sports do you like?

MS: I watch soccer...I am a soccer fan.

NS: What do expect going into the full pads part of camp?

MS: It will be a lot more physical and I will have to use my head more... I have to keep my head up.

NS: What is your favorite movie?

MS: Training Day, I’m a big Denzel (Washington) fan.

NS: How about this summer?

MS: The last Die Hard movie, its all action.

NS: Have you done any traveling lately?

MS: I went to the Azure Islands this summer. I liked it a lot. I went snorkeling and swam in the Atlantic Ocean. I had never done those things before.

NS: What’s your favorite place to travel to in the U.S.?

MS: It would probably be Arizona; we have a lot of family there.

NS: Do you have any famous relative or ancestor?

MS: No, I don’t, but hopefully I’ll be the first!

NS: Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?

MS: I love the beach, but I wanted to get away from that.

NS: Would you want to do any skiing?

MS: If the coaches let me! I’ll try to hit the slopes a little bit.

NS: Do you have any siblings?

MS: I have a younger brother, 17. He really doesn’t do much (laughing).

NS: Do have any idols or people you respect?

MS: Jerry Rice. I met him once at a Stanford Nike camp; best moment of my life. He’s a hard worker. You do what he does and you’ll be on the right track.

NS: What is your favorite sport to watch on TV?

MS: Oh, it’s football!. NFL, I love to watch the San Diego Chargers.

NS:  For your free time, what do you do?

MS: When I was at home I liked to chill and hangout with my girlfriend. Out here I have to find a new thing, maybe pick up long boarding.

NS: What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?

MS: President.

NS: Have you felt the altitude?

MS: It was bad when I first got here, I threw up after workouts. But now I’m catching my wind.

NS: How do you like Boulder?

MS: I love it.

NS: How does San Diego compare to Boulder?

MS: Life here is slower and everyone here is more relaxed. In San Diego they like to drive fast and there are a lot of different personalities, but Boulder is a little similar.

NS: Do you like video games?

MS: Oh yeah! Madden and FIFA (soccer) all day long.
