An 11-time letterwinner and three-time CU Male Athlete of the Year at Colorado, Jorge Torres returns to his alma mater as the Buffs’ volunteer assistant coach.
A seven-time Big 12 Conference Champion, eight-time All-American and after three NCAA runner-up finishes in 10 NCAA Championship races, he claimed his first national title when he won the 2002 NCAA Cross Country title.
The CU record holder in the outdoor 5k (13:24.56), after completing his collegiate eligibility in the spring of ‘03 he signed an endorsement contract with Reebok and began competing professionally. His post-collegiate resume includes making the finals at the 2003 World Outdoor Championships (15th), after finishing third in at the US Championships in the 5k. On the ‘03 European circuit, he had stops in Greece (3rd, 1,500-m), Belgium (11th, 5k) and Finland (3k) where he set pr’s in all three races. His 2004 Olympic bid fell short when he finished seventh in the trials.
Born Aug. 22, 1980, Torres was born just 10 minutes ahead of twin brother and training partner Edwardo, in Chicago.
