BOULDER - Johnna Pointer has resigned from her position as assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Colorado effective immediately, citing family and professional reasons, head coach Linda Lappe announced on Friday.

Pointer spent one season as a Colorado assistant, helping the Buffaloes to an 18-16 overall record while advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2011 Postseason WNIT. A Shallowater, Texas, native and former All-Southwest Conference guard at Texas (1988-92), Pointer helped develop the Colorado back court this season while also assisting in recruiting, opponent scouting and serving as the program's liaison with academics.

"Our players and staff are sad to see her go as she was a great ambassador for Colorado Basketball," Lappe said. "We will continue to follow her career and wish her the best of luck with her club team."

She plans to return to her former position as the Administrative President for the Hoop 10 Basketball - Serious Basketball Instruction program in Amarillo, Texas, an endeavor she had invested nearly a decade's worth of work into prior to joining Lappe's initial Colorado staff. Pointer's move will also allow her to spend more time with family, including her 13-year old daughter Steffi.

"Colorado is an amazing institution, I couldn't have asked for more out of the opportunity, but it's a decision I had to make as a parent and with the investment made into the Hoop 10 program." Pointer said.

"I leave with only positive thoughts and am very proud to have been part of the ground work that this staff and team has laid down for the future of the program. The program is moving in the right direction and I wish the coaches and players all the best."

A search for Pointer's replacement will begin immediately.
