FRESHMAN (2012): Machalek played in 15 games and made her presence felt in her Colorado debut. In just five minutes playing time in the season opener against Northern Colorado, Machalek pushed her way to the net to help the Buffs to a 3-0 shutout. She played in seven conference games and contributed an assist in the 3-0 blanking of Arizona.
HIGH SCHOOL: Machalek was a four-year letterwinner and reached two Colorado Class 5A state title games at Fairview High School, winning the championship in 2010 and finishing second in 2012. She was an All-Front Range League first-team selection her junior season, during which she scored 16 goals and was her team's offensive player of the year. Her senior year, she was a second-team selection and won her team's Knight Award for best representation of sport and school spirit. She helped Boulder's Force - BCF to a state title in 2010 and a second place finish in 2012. She led the club in assists in 2011, and won the Award for Outstanding Effort and Commitment to the Team in 2009.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Machalek majors in chemical and biological engineering with a pre-med option at Colorado.
PERSONAL: Her full name is Nikola Sally Machalek. Her nickname is Nikki. She was born on February 22, 1994 to Ken and Jolana Machalek. Her mother was a ski racer at the University of Minnesota. She has a twin brother named Derek who also plays soccer and skis. She is bilingual and can speak both English and Czech. She has played in soccer tournaments in the Czech Republic, of which her mother is a native. She graduated with the International Baccalaureate diploma from Fairview. She has always been interested in science and hopes to go to medical school after she graduates from Colorado. She loves her home state and especially enjoys the skiing.
