2009 Big 12 All-Academic First Team
2010 Big 12 All-Academic Second Team
HEMPEN ON ROSS: Kelly Ross reminds me a lot of Michelle Wenino. Michelle kind of worked her way through some injuries and past being an unknown person just like Kelly. But she's become one of those players we have to have on the field. She's an unbelievable competitor.
SENIOR (2010): Ross started all 20 of Colorado's games, one of just three Buffs to do so. She led the defense to shutout five opponents in 2010. She played an impressive 1,802 minutes and managed to attempt two shots on the season.
JUNIOR (2009): Ross played in all 19 games and started all but two. She contributed one goal for two points on the season, while attempting five shots on the year. Despite focusing on her role as a top defender for the Buffs, Ross found the net for her first career goal as a Buff in the 2-1 mid-season victory over Utah.
SOPHOMORE (2008): Ross saw action in all but one game as a junior and earned six starts at defender. Ross tallied one assist in '08 and it came in the 3-2 overtime win against Mississippi. Ross connected with teammate Nikki Marshall for the game-winning goal. She earned a career-high minutes played against Oklahoma State during the regular season when she logged 110 minutes in the double-overtime game.
REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2007): Ross sat out her sophomore campaign due to a knee injury prior to the season.
FRESHMAN (2006): After beginning the season as a role player coming off the bench, Ross worked her way into the starting lineup for the first time against Nebraska on Sept. 29. She then got the nod the next game against Wyoming and after coming off the bench against Texas A&M and Texas, she finished the season starting the final 11 games. Playing outside defender in the back three anchored by Laura Munnelly, Ross developed into a 90-minute player by season's end, playing complete games in CU's last nine games.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ross was a four-time letterwinner at Monarch High School. She earned first-team All-Conference honors as a sophomore, junior and senior and was honorable mention as a freshman. She was also a member of the Arvada Edge club team where she led her team to first-place finishes in the Dallas Cup in 2004, Mile High Soccer Fest in 2003, Sandia Cup, Colorado Rush Tournament and Riverside Invitational in 2002. Ross considered attending Regis, Northern Colorado and Drury prior to choosing Colorado.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Ross is an international affairs major and a political science minor at Colorado. She earned a first-team Big 12 All-Academic honor in 2009.
PERSONAL: Kelly Aletha Ross was born Sept. 23, 1987 in Boulder, Colo. She is the daughter of Wally Ross and Barbara Todd and has a twin brother, Ben. Her hobbies include snowboarding, as well as playing ping-pong and bocce ball. She often volunteers with the athletic department, participating in a number of community service events, including Buffalo Hugs.
