Tennis Performs Well at KU Invite

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Colorado women's tennis team won six of eight tennis matches in day one of the Kansas Invitational, Friday afternoon. The Buffaloes won three of four singles and three of four doubles matches.

CU is one of nine teams participating in the three-day invitational featuring the host Jayhawks, along with Armstrong Atlantic, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas State, Oklahoma, UMKC and Wichita State.

In singles play, CU won three of four matches with senior Abbie Probert playing her first match of the fall and taking a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner over Iowa's Christina Harazin. It was Probert's 38th career win and her fourth match victory after rallying from a set down.

Freshman Carla Manzi Tenorio and junior Michala Hedelund Jensen each defeated a pair of Missouri-Kansas City opponents. Manzi Tenorio edged Laura Bouet, 6-4, 7-5 for her seventh win of the fall, and Hedelund Jensen secured her team-best 10th triumph defeating Eva Dalvai, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Manzi Tenorio and freshman Kristina Schleich went 2-0 on the day in the Red Group, defeating Kansas State's Carmen Borau Ramos and Sarah Snodgrass, and blanking Valerie Brockman and Lily Wakim of Wichita State, 8-0.

Elsewhere in doubles, Probert and Hedelund Jensen went 1-1 in the Blue Group winning their first match in Round 1 defeating Jessica Garderfjord/Joanna Szymczyk from Atlantic Armstrong, 9-7, then falling to Indiana's Leslie Hureau and Sophie Garre, 8-4.

Probert secured her 53rd career doubles match win moving into 14th place on the school's all-time wins list.

Day two of the KU Invitational begins with morning play featuring all day singles and doubles matches.
