ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Colorado women's tennis team earned its first shutout victory of the season defeating the University of New Mexico, 7-0 Saturday at the Linda Estes Tennis Complex.

For the second consecutive match, and only the second time all season, the Buffs won the doubles point. It was the duo of Erin Sanders and Ashley Tiefel, who clinched the point with a hard-fought 8-6 victory.  CU's No. 55 nationally ranked tandem of Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio helped secure the doubles point with an 8-3 win.

This is CU's first winning streak of the young spring season after beating rival CSU, 6-1 last Saturday. The fourth win on the season also surpasses last year's win total (three).

Senior Ania Anuszkiewicz clinched the match for CU defeating Alyssa Caffey 6-4, 6-3, providing the Buffs with the essential fourth point.  The Buffs also picked up victories with straight set wins from redshirt sophomore Erin Sanders (No. 4) and freshman Julyette Steur (No. 3).

CU also saw three set wins from sophomore Kristina Schleich over Michaela Bezdickov, 6-1, 6-7(5), 1-0(7) at the No. 1 singles position; sophomore Winde Janssens over Susanna Kuuttila, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2; and Manzi Tenorio defeating Nikolina Grbac, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5.

Janssens, who won her 11th match of the year, won her fourth career match after rallying from a set down to achieve victory.  Schleich (12 wins on the year) and Manzi Tenorio also picked up their sixth and third wins, respectively when playing in three set matches.

"I'm just really happy with the way we came out and competed, in all nine positions, I think we did a fabulous job," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "It was great for Ania (Anuszkiewicz) to get the fourth point, I'm really happy for her, that she had the opportunity to win that clinching point for us."

New Mexico still leads the all-time series, 16-15, however, CU has won the last four in a row (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012).

Colorado improves to 4-2 on the season against the previously unbeaten Lobos (3-1). CU will play again next Saturday hosting Northern Colorado (10 a.m.), and Denver on Sunday (10 a.m.) at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House.
