BOULDER-It has been over a month since Colorado Basketball clinched its first Pac-12 Championship and the 50 students that the Buffs foot the bill to travel to Los Angeles are still going strong.

The 50 C-Unit members plus the athletic department staff and guests gathered at The Sink around some pizza and reminisced on the historic journey the whole group embarked on back in March.

Also known as the “OG 50” standing for original gang of 50, the C-Unit reunited to celebrate its efforts and presence throughout the entire basketball season and Pac-12 Tournament. Head Coach Tad Boyle made a special appearance with his son Pete and gave a short speech and was available for pictures and to sign autographs. He got to talk with the students and diehard fans to thank them one-on-one.

“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart,” said Boyle. “I know it started in the past, but this year it went to a whole new level and we couldn’t have done it without you.”

Ashton Horowitz, a junior integrative physiology major, who was only one of five girls in the OG 50, said, “I really appreciated Tad coming and taking the time to thank us. It was really nice to know that we actually do make a difference for the team.”

Athletic Director Mike Bohn also spoke, saying he could see the OG 50 in the Hall of Fame someday. Bohn even promised the graduating seniors home basketball tickets any time in the future.

The Coors Events Center averaged 7,804 fans last season, a 68 percent increase over the past three years.  The athletic department also saw a 26 percent increase in season ticket sales over the last season.

“The OG 50 will always be a bond and a connection for basketball that other people won’t understand,” said Horowitz. The OG 50, Bohn and Boyle have their sights set on Las Vegas for March 2013 for the next Pac-12 Tournament.
