BOULDER- For the first time since 2003, the University of Colorado volleyball team has a recruiting class ranked in the top-20 as the most recent class was tabbed the 19th best in the country according to PrepVolleyball.com.

Coach Liz Kritza signed Alexis Austin (6-2, MB, Houston, Texas), Nichole Edelman (6-1, S, Boulder, Colo.) and Chelsey Keoho (5-2, L, Honolulu, Hawai'i) to National Letters of Intent in November of 2011.  The Buffs earned a No. 9 ranking in 2003 when they signed Ashley and Amber Nu'u, Austin Zimmerman and Lara Bossow.

According to PrepVolleyball.com's John Tawa, "This recruiting class promises to be the best class in recent history for Colorado. Having multiple recruits named to the 2011 USA Youth National Team is a unique claim that only a few programs can make. This class will have a great impact on the Buffaloes Volleyball program and will lead the way for the resurgence of the program. They are all gifted players who will bring an exciting dynamic to the gym and are sure to become fan favorites."

Austin was ranked No. 26 individually by PrepVolleyball.com and was also an ESPN top 25 selection. She was a member of the 2011 U.S. Girls' Youth National Team and the 2010 U.S. Girls' Youth National A2 Team. Austin has earned numerous accolades and was named a Volleyball Magazine/Rox Girls' Fab 50 selection, AVCA 2011-12 Under Armour Second Team All-American, 2011 Greater Houston Coaches Association/Vype Magazine Top 36, Cypress Falls High School MVP and Texas 17-5A First Team All-District. Alexis was named the Spring Branch Tournament most valuable hitter and earned all-tournament team honors at the Cypress Fair ISU Tournament.

Edelman has earned a PrepVolleyball.com individual ranking of No. 38 and was an ESPN top 25 selection. She was on the same U.S. national teams with Austin in 2010 and 2011 and also earned mention on Volleyball Magazine/Rox Girls' Fab 50. Edelman was one of the top Colorado high school athletes, earning Colorado 5A All-State honorable mention honors in 2010. She was all-conference 2008-2010 and was the Fairview High School MVP in 2009 and 2010. Edelman was also a 2010 AAU All-American.

Keoho was named to PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces (top 150) and was on the AVCA All-American Watch list. She was a member of the U.S. Girls' Youth National Training Team in 2010. Keoho earned Hawai'i All-State honorable mention honors and Division I All-Tournament Team nods in 2009 and 2011. She was named to the Honolulu Star's Top 15 list as well as the INL Division I first team in 2010.

"We are very excited to welcome these exceptional young women to the Buffs family," Kritza said. "Each one brings something different to our program, but the common thread is their pursuit of excellence in all they do. We are welcoming three very accomplished students who are successful in many facets of life, namely their athletic careers.  Most importantly, they are fantastic kids who will represent us well through their efforts in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. I am very happy they decided to play for the University of Colorado."

The rankings do not take into effect any transfers or international athletes the Buffs will add to their 2012 roster.
