BOULDER—The University of Colorado football staff and Special Olympics Colorado teamed up last week to host the first-ever Flag Football Camp for Special Olympics athletes.
Head Coach Jon Embree and the entire CU Football staff served as volunteer coaches and participated in the two-hour skills and conditioning camp at Folsom Field for about 75 athletes. The event kicked off Special Olympics Colorado’s inaugural season for flag football, which is the organization’s first new program in 12 years.
Special Olympics Colorado now offers 22 sports programs annually to athletes with intellectual disabilities. The competitive season begins in September with a state championship in October. The organization serves more than 11,000 athletes and hosts over 100 events and training opportunities each year.
