BOULDER – CU women’s lacrosse coach Ann Elliott has been hard at work since her arrival at the University of Colorado.

Hired in March 2012, she became the first ever lacrosse coach at the school as the Buffs will begin play in the newly added sport in the spring of 2014. Since arriving on campus, she has been hitting the recruiting trail hard, hired an assistant coach (Hannah Nielsen, one of the top players in the world) and most recently, she hosted her first summer camp.

Designed for players entering grades eight through college freshman, the All Skills Weekend Camp ran from July14-15. It was created to emphasize the basics while providing a competitive arena to develop more advanced skills. Each day combined skill instruction and playing sessions, with players integrating their individual skill work in small groups into gameplay.

If the camp turnout is any indication of things to come, Elliot and the rest of CU have reason to be optimistic about the future of Lacrosse at the school.

“My staff and I could not be more excited with how our first camp at CU went,” Elliott said. “We drew over 75 players from not only Colorado but all across the country from the east coast to the west coast.”

With this year’s camp wrapped up, the head coach seemed pleased with the results and excited for the future.

“Having our first camp in Folsom Field was a very special way for us to kick off women's lacrosse here at CU,” she said. “There is so much rich tradition here and we are excited to be a part of it as we build our program.

“We hope to continue to get involved in the community with many more local camps and clinics in the future.”

Elliott comes to from Northwestern University where as a player she won three NCAA national titles and was named an All-American. She was previously the associate head coach for the Wildcats.

Her most recent accomplishment? Surprise, surprise…Elliot won yet another championship this past May.

With six NCAA titles to her credit as both a player and coach at Northwestern, CU provides Elliot an opportunity to lay the foundation and build a young program and the lacrosse camp was the perfect way for her to get started.
