Colorado returns four starters from the 2011 team that recorded a 6-24 overall record. Senior Kerra Schroeder, the team's captain for the third consecutive season, led the Buffs and ranked seventh in the Pac-12 Conference with 3.95 kills per set. Schroeder started in all 30 matches and played in each of the 109 sets. She also added 2.62 digs per set, which was second on the team and 0.40 blocks per set.

Also returning for the Buffs this season are junior Nikki Lindow and sophomores Emily Alexis and Kelsey English. Lindow led the team in blocks with 0.76 blocks per set and added 2.16 kills per set, which was second on the team. English was third on the team with 1.91 kills per set and Alexis was fourth with 1.77 kills per set.

The Buffs added three freshmen and one sophomore transfer to the roster. Freshmen Alexis Austin, Nicole Edelmen and Chelsey Keoho, along with Emily Todd will look to contribute to the team's success this season. Austin and Edelmen were ESPN Top-25 selections and Austin also earned AVCA 2011-12 Under Armour Second Team All-American status.

TSU returns all six of its starters from the 2011 squad that finished 5-23 overall. The Tigers were 3-5 (fourth) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Buffs faced TSU once before on Sept. 6, 2008, and won in three sets (25-11, 25-23, 25-11).

Louisiana finished the 2011 campaign with a 14-18 record (6-10 in the Sun Belt Conference). The Ragin' Cajuns lost two starters and return four starters plus their libero. This is the first meeting between the two schools. The tournament host, Sam Houston State, has four of its six starters back on the roster from the 2011 season. The Bearkats are the only team at the tournament with an above .500 record in 2011 at 18-13. They finished third in the Southland Conference with an 11-5 record.

The Buffs will open their home portion of the schedule next weekend, August 31-September 1, at the Omni Hotels Colorado Volleyball Classic at the Coors Events Center.
