NEW ORLEANS - The University of Colorado men's cross country team vaulted five spots in this week's USTFFCCCA Coaches' Poll to become the second-ranked team in the country.

The Buffs won the NCAA Pre-National Invitational last Saturday in Louisville, Ky., in dominate style. They recorded 79 points in the win to defeat then-No. 3 BYU by 55 points. CU finished 4-11-12-22-23 to record its team score, but also had the 27th and 35th-place finishers. CU would have defeated BYU even without its 22nd and 23rd place finishers since the sixth and seventh runners finished so high.

This is the first time since 2007 that the CU men have been ranked second in the poll. They are just 10 points behind the poll's new No. 1 team, Oklahoma State, which recorded 353 points. Stanford also jumped up five spots in the poll to take third and is just four points behind the Buffs which should make for an exciting race at the Pac-12 Championships.

CU's women dropped three positions in the poll to 21st after tying for seventh at pre-nationals. The women recorded 273 points to share seventh with Villanova, which is currently tied for 22nd in this week's poll. Florida State took the top spot for the second straight week after winning pre-nationals. The Seminoles recorded 359 points to top Iowa State's total of 346. Pac-12 opponent Oregon placed third in the poll with 332 points.

The regional rankings were released on Monday. The men's team took over the top spot in the NCAA Mountain Region, while the women held strong at third.

The next poll will be released on Oct. 30 after the conference championships are held. The Pac-12 Championships will be on Oct. 27 in Santa Clarita, Calif. UCLA will host the meet.
