Third 2009-10 Winning Attitude Recipient Announced

BOULDER - Qwest, FSN Rocky Mountain and the University of Colorado have named Sierra Middle School (Parker, Colo.) seventh grader Chelsey Roosa the third 2009-10 Winning Attitude award winner.  Winners are selected from a pool of written stories submitted by middle school students explaining how their "Winning Attitude" made a difference in their communities.

Chelsey showed her Winning Attitude by seeing a problem and taking it upon herself to help out in ways that she knew how.   Chelsey, along with her brother Kaleb, took on a project to help homeless people in downtown Denver.  They walked up and down the streets handing out lunches that they had personally made.  "There are still hungry people out there," Chelsey said in her essay, "but at least I stepped up and helped who I could."  Chelsey knows that it may not be the easiest or convenient thing to do but was happy to take action to help others.  Her wining attitude displayed the leadership that helped improve the day of people she didn't know, even if it was only for a minute.  "Each time someone chooses to do a small act of kindness, it could seem like a lot to the person in need," Chelsey wrote.   Chelsey and her brother showed that their positive attitude can help people when they put their minds to it, but it also created a feeling of joy within them.

Chelsey and her classmates will be honored between the third and fourth quarters of the Colorado vs. Missouri football game Saturday, October 31.  The game kicks off at 11:30 a.m. on FSN Rocky Mountain with pregame coverage starting at 11:00 a.m.

This is the fourth year Qwest, FSN and CU have come together to honor middle school students around Colorado for the differences they can make in their communities by providing outstanding efforts in sportsmanship, community involvement and teamwork.  Ten winning entrants and their classmates will win a trip to an upcoming CU home football game at Folsom Field or a men's basketball home game and a $1,000 contribution for their school from Qwest.

One grand prize winner will be selected among the 10 winning entrants and will receive the opportunity to host a school-wide pep rally emceed by an on-air talent from FSN Rocky Mountain.  CU Coaches and student-athletes will speak at the pep rally and the CU cheerleaders and pep band will also be there to perform.  The grand prize winner receives a $2,500 contribution from Qwest for their school.
