BOULDER — The University of Colorado men’s golf team has made a key personnel move in this recruiting season, but it’s not an incoming player.
Head coach Roy Edwards announced Tuesday that Dee Tidwell, the renowned golf-specific strength and conditioning coach, has signed on with the Buffs’ as their first-ever Director of Fitness and Performance.
“We are extremely pleased to announce Dee as our director of fitness and performance,” Edwards said. “Dee is one of the most well respected and highest certified golf-specific strength and conditioning coaches in the world. He will be a huge asset to our players and our overall program.
“Dee has trained PGA Tour winners and he is passionate about helping our players reach their vast potential,” Edwards added. “We know that he will be a key part in our quest to win championships and further the positive development of our players. It is special and unique to Colorado that a trainer of his caliber is involved with an NCAA golf program. He is a major asset to the University of Colorado and our golf team.”
Tidwell is the owner of Championship Golf Fitness (CGF) and Director of Fitness at the MetaGolf Learning Center (formerly the McGetrick Golf Academy), working with past PGA tour winners such as Arron Oberholser and Joe Durant as their conditioning coach.
He is also the co-creator of www.golffitnessguys.com, a blog dedicated to helping the public, golf professional and golf fitness professional attain levels of success that they seek, and recently created www.juniorgolfnewsletter.com, a blog and newsletter dedicated to junior golfers and providing them with the up to date latest golf and performance information just for juniors.
Tidwell is a Colorado’s only Titleist Performance Institute certified Level 3 golf fitness instructor, a Level 3 junior fitness coach (the only one in Colorado) and has Level 2 medical status. He also is a muscle activation techniques specialist and a nutrition and lifestyle coach.
CGF’s goal is to help golfers of all ages and skill levels attain their true potential by helping them become the best athletes they can be. Research shows that great athletes are great golfers, and CGF is out to help the next generation of golfers achieve their highest dreams in golf and beyond.
As a High Performance Exercise Kinesiologist to professional, amateur, and youth athletes in a variety of sports, he has studied under Paul Chek as a level two practitioner and is certified as a nutrition and lifestyle coach. He brings invaluable knowledge of neural motor programming, rehabilitation, and nutrition coaching, as well as functional and sports specific conditioning programs.
Tidwell received his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Physiology from California State University at Chico in 1993. Since 1999, Dee has been working with specialty athletes from all areas of sports including PGA Tour pros, Olympic (Gold medal winning) level professional snowboarders, professional motocross racers, professional skiers, X-Games (Gold medal winning) athletes, and elite level high school golfers.
