Colorado Game Day Central

The Colorado Buffaloes (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) open their 118th season of intercollegiate football this Saturday, September 1, against the in-state rival Colorado State Rams (0-0, 0-0 Mountain West) in the Qwest Rocky Mountain Showdown at Invesco Field at Mile High... Kickoff is set for 10:10 a.m. MDT, with Fox Sports Net set to televise the game nationally; Joel Meyers (play-by-play), Gary Reasons (commentary) and Emily Jones (sidelines) will be in town to call the action... Colorado is the designated home team, but its true home opener at Folsom Field is September 15 against Florida State; the last time the Buffs played their first two games of the year away from Boulder was in 2000 (same set-up: CSU in Denver, road game at a Pac-10 school, USC), otherwise you have to go back to 1980 when CU opened at UCLA and LSU before having its home opener... For more information on the Showdown, go to www.qwestrockymountainshowdown.com... CU is 137-55-7 against members of the Mountain West Conference, meaning Saturday’s game is No. 200 for the Buffs against the league... Freshman DT Eugene Goree (pronounced Gore-ray) will turn 18 on game day; though young, as of now it appears he will play as a true frosh... As of the close of business Monday, there were 4,100 tickets through CU remaining for the game (about 5,000 through CSU), meaning a crowd of 65,000-plus is expected for the game... There are just under 5,000 tickets remaining for Colorado’s home opener against Florida State on Sept. 15... CU’s website, www.CUBuffs.com features game day updates and live stats for all games.
