#10 Lauren Lubin
Position: Guard
Height: 5'8"
Year: Sophomore
City/State: Winnetka, Ill.
High School: New Trier
Experience: 1 Letter

A defensive minded guard, Lauren Lubin has played both back court spots for the Buffaloes. Her overall strength and hustle are her key assets and now as an upperclassman will be looked upon to help the younger players get ready for the grueling Big 12 Conference season.

2005-06 (Sophomore): After senior guard Whitney Law went down with an ankle injury in the third game of the season, Lubin stepped into the starting lineup against Utah State (11/26) and recorded what would be the first of back-to-back double-doubles. She had 13 points and 13 rebounds in her initial start, leading the Buffaloes to a 73-56 win over the Aggies. Lubin backed up that performance with a career-high 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists at Colorado State (11/30). She became just the fifth guard in CU history to register two or more career points-rebounds double-doubles and only the second to have double-doubles in back-to-back games, joining Bridget Turner who did it in her Big Eight MVP season of 1988-89. Lubin started 11 games as a sophomore and played in 28. She hit 12-of-28 from 3-point range for a team-best 42.9 percent from beyond the arc, compared to her freshman year when she hit just 1-of-7. She was fourth on the team in total assists (47) and fifth in rebounding average (3.6 rpg). Lubin hit 78 percent from the free-throw line, one of five Buffs to hit 75 percent or better on the season, helping CU to a team mark of 74 percent, best in the Big 12 in 2005-06.

2004-05 (Freshman): The 2004-05 academic year was actually Luibin’s second as a student at Colorado. She came to CU right out of high school in the fall of 2003, but just to be a student and not play basketball. After a year away from the sport, she joined the team as a walk on at the beginning of the 2004-05 season and earned a scholarship by the spring semester. Lubin played in 16 straight games at the beginning of her freshman year, but was forced to miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with mononucleosis. During her 16-game stint, she scored in four games in a row (vs. Iowa State-at Oklahoma State) and had 11 rebounds in those four games. Lubin tallied a career-high 31 minutes at Missouri (1/18) while netting career highs with seven rebounds and two assists. She drained her first collegiate 3-point field goal in the Northern Colorado (12/29). Officially began her collegiate basketball career by playing three minutes at Nevada in the Nugget Classic. She scored her first collegiate points against Pennsylvania, hitting all three of her attempts (one field goal, two free throws).

High School: Lubin graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., in June of 2003 with four letters in basketball and one letter in lacrosse. She has an extensive list of awards and honors including a school record of most wins by any starter. Lubin was named All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association as a senior and a two time All Area pick by the Pioneer Press. She was consistently recognized as one of the top-50 guards in the state her final three years as a prep and was named in the top 10 as a freshman. Not only did Lubin excel on the court, but also in the classroom, earning Honor Roll status her junior and senior years. She lists the biggest moment of her high school career as when her team beat the undefeated, No. 1 ranked team in the state to advance to the state playoffs and eventually finished third. Lubin also played with the Illinois Hustle of the AAU and earned three state titles (1998-2000) and finished fourth in the nation in 2000.

Academics: Lubin is a sociology major at Colorado, and is also interested in communication and nutrition.

Personal: Lauren Arline Lubin was born April 18, 1985, in Chicago. She is the oldest child of Larry and Claudia Lubin and has two brothers, Philip (19) and Kevin (15). Philip is a sophomore at the University of Illinois. Kevin plays football and lacrosse at New Trier High School. Larry played collegiate basketball at Illinois. Lubin’s hobbies include skiing, mountain biking and Scrabble and said she loves the Boulder and Colorado active lifestyle.
