OJAI, Calif. - Competing for the first time at the Pac-12 Tennis Championships at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club in Ojai, Calif., the University of Colorado women's team failed to win a singles match on Thursday, the first day of the conference tournament plagued by two rain delays.

The Pac-12 Women's Tennis Championships are played differently from the men's tournament. For the women, the Pac-12 women's team champ was decided by the regular-season conference finish were Stanford (18-1, 9-1 Pac-12) and USC (20-3, 9-1 Pac-12) were conference co-champions.
However, the Cardinal defeated USC, 4-2 two weeks ago, giving the Cardinal the head-to-head tiebreaker and the Pac-12's automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinal has now won the conference title outright or claimed at least a share of the hardware in every season since 1987, with the exception of 2009.
The women's singles and doubles champions will be determined at the tournament. In singles, there will be a 32-player draw and in doubles, a 16-team draw. In addition, players from Pac-12 teams not participating in the championship draws will have the opportunity to compete in the Pac-12 Singles Invitational and Pac-12 Doubles Invitational. Both singles draws are single elimination.
