BOULDER -
University of Colorado goalkeeper Annie Brunner was named the Pac-12 Conference
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 13-19,
Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.
Brunner,
a junior from Arvada, Colo., started the 2012 season off hot, with eight saves against Northern
Colorado and Colorado College in the Colorado Cup. She came up big against
Northern Colorado on Friday, saving the ball three times and facing 15 shots,
helping the Buffs to a 3-0 win. It was the sixth time in as many meetings that
the Buffs shut out the Bears.
On Sunday, she recorded another shutout
against Colorado College. She had five saves, including one in the final
minute, allowing the game to finish in a 0-0 draw and the Buffs to win their
second consecutive Colorado Cup title. The tie moved her into sole possession
of second place on CU's all-time ties list.
Brunner (12-8-6 in her career) currently
ranks at the top of the Pac-12 this season in shutouts and sits at second for
most saves. Her 109 total saves put her at seventh on CU's all-time list. She
is just two wins away from tying for fourth on CU's list of most wins.
Brunner is Colorado soccer's first Pac-12 Player
of the Week. Brunner also earned Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week
honors in September 2010.
