Barczuk, Oraee Named CU Athletes of the Week
Release: October 23, 2012
By: Paul Swenson, Student Assistant SID

BOULDER - Soccer's Amy Barczuk and men's golf's David Oraee earned CU Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday for their play during the week of Oct. 15-21.  CU's Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Silk®, Horizon® and International Delight®.

Barczuk helped give the CU soccer team its first conference win of the season on Sunday against the Southern California Trojans.  The senior captain hit the overtime game-winner in the 105th minute to help Colorado claim the 1-0 road victory.  The Centennial, Colo., native scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Anne Stuller.  It was the Buffs' seventh shutout of the year.

Oraee led the Buffaloes to a 12th place team finish at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif., on Oct. 15-16.  The sophomore from Greeley, Colo., tied for 26th individually with a 1-over par 214 effort on the 6,759-yard, par-71 Meadow Club course.  He turned in rounds of 67-69-78 and had 10 birdies and 35 pars in the tournament, both second-most on the team.

This was the first award of the season for both athletes.

Also nominated for this week's honor was volleyball's Alexis Austin, a two-time winner of the award.

Austin led the volleyball team with 21 kills and hit .167 in losses this past weekend to No. 6 UCLA and No. 7 USC. Austin hammered in 12 kills in the effort against UCLA and recorded nine kills against USC. For the weekend, she averaged 3.50 kills per set and 3.58 points per set.  The Buffs are now 13-9 overall and 3-7 in the Pac-12.
