OJAI, Calif. – The University of Colorado tennis team turned its attention to doubles play Friday on the second on the four day Pac-12 Championships at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.

Friday’s play consisted of the 16-team women’s doubles championship draw of one doubles team from each of the 11 schools and five additional teams selected by the Draw Committee.

In the Round of 16 doubles bracket, CU’s lone doubles tandem of Erin Sanders and Julyette Steur fell to California’s Kiara Fabikova and Zsofia Susanyi, 8-5. Fabikova and Susanyi, the No. 45 nationally ranked team in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top-75 doubles rankings, won their 11th match of the year.

Sanders/Steur, who played the top doubles position for CU the entire spring season, won nine matches during spring play, including a pair of wins in their four matches during the month of April.

In the invitational draw, Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio won their 11th match of the year – a team best - defeating Alice Duranteau and Laura Posylkin of California, 8-0. It was the second time this spring season Janssens/Manzi Tenorio shut out an opponent, in addition recording their third victory over a Pac-12 opponent. The CU tandem also defeated Arizona and Oregon at No. 2 doubles.

Elsewhere in invitational play, Dhany Quevedo and Mazy Watrous were matched up with Washington State’s Liza Leenknecht/Elizaveta Luzina for the second time this season. Back on April 5, WSU edged Quevedo/Watrous, 8-4 and this time around it was same result, this time, however a little closer by an 8-6 margin.

The Pac-12 Championships are being held in conjunction with the 113th Annual Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club. The conference tournament consists of a 32-singles championship draw with three players from each of the top 10 Pac-12 schools and two players from the 11th place team, based on regular season standings (where the Buffs tied for eighth). Southern California claimed the team title with a 9-0 regular season conference record.
