KALAMAZOO, Mich. – University of Colorado junior Julyette Steur was lone winner in five singles matches for the Buffaloes on the final day of the Western Michigan University Invitational, Sunday morning.

Steur defeated Monica Robinson of Notre Dame, 6-5(4), 4-6, 1-0(5) for her sixth win of the fall season in nine matches played.

CU competed against six other schools over the three days in what was the last fall tournament for most of the schools. The Buffs competed against Western Michigan, Bowling Green, Indiana Louisville, Marquette, and Notre Dame.

“We had a competitive and difficult fall semester,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “We’re looking forward to taking a few days off to rest, then we’ll get back to work in preparation for the spring semester. I’m definitely happy in the way we played and competed this fall. At the same time, we’re continuing to grow and getting better for an exciting spring season."

The singles field consisted of 10 round robin draws of four players each, with each player playing a round of singles on each day. The doubles field was a bracketed draw of 16, with two rounds of doubles over Friday and Saturday.

Also seeing action of the final day of the WMU Invite were freshmen Nuria Ormeño Ruiz, sophomore Alex Aiello, juniors Ashley Tiefel and senior Carla Manzi Tenorio. All four lost in straight sets.

Aiello won a team-high 10 singles matches, while Ormeño Ruiz won nine.

The women’s tennis team is idle until January 2014 beginning the home season with a four-match homestand opening with the season Northern Colorado (10 a.m.) on Jan. 24, then Boise State (11 a.m.) on Jan. 25. The Buffs will then play of pair of matches on Feb. 1 against Air Force (10 a.m.) and Colorado State (3 p.m.). All four matches will be played at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House.
