BOULDER – The University of Colorado soccer team will play eight games this spring, including four home matches, head coach Danny Sanchez announced Wednesday. The Buffaloes’ schedule features five in-state opponents and one former Big 12 Conference rival.

CU opens the spring against Air Force on Friday, March 7 in Boulder. The Buffs hold a 5-1 regular season lead over the Falcons, falling only in their inaugural season of 1996. In spring play last season, the Buffs blanked the Falcons 2-0 in the Regis University Tournament.

The Buffs continue their homestand against Division II opponent Metro State. Coach Sanchez spent six seasons as the head coach of Metro State, leading the Roadrunners to a 128-11-7 record, six straight NCAA DII Tournaments and a pair of NCAA Championships. Sanchez welcomes his former team on Sunday, March 9.

Colorado faces two more DII teams during the Regis University Tournament on Saturday, April 5. CU opens the double-header against host team Regis. Next up for the Buffs is Fort Lewis College. CU swiftly defeated Fort Lewis 2-0 in last spring’s Colorado Mesa University Tournament.

The Buffs return to Boulder for their second of three double-headers. On Saturday, April 12, CU will take on New Mexico and Northern Colorado. The Buffs have not faced the UNM Lobos since the 2007 season, when they finished double overtime in a scoreless draw. CU won the teams’ only other meeting, a 1-0 victory in 2003. Colorado has dominated against Northern Colorado in the regular season, holding a 7-0 lead and never allowing a goal. In the teams’ meetings in both the spring and fall of 2013, the Buffs won 3-0.

CU concludes the season with a trip to Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, April 19. First up is CU’s former Big 12 rival Nebraska. The teams have not played since their final year in the Big 12 (CU left for the Pac-12 Conference and NU left for the Big Ten Conference after the 2010 season). Though NU won the team’s first five meetings, CU won the last five, leaving the series in a 7-7-2 tie. The Buffs conclude the spring against Nebraska Omaha, a team they have never faced in the regular season.
