ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Juniors Mark Jones and Alex Kizirian represented the University of Colorado on Saturday at the 2014 USA Track and Field Indoor Championships.

Kizirian placed seventh overall in the weight throw, finishing with a mark of 67 feet, 4.75 inches, tying his second best mark this season. He had a pretty good series despite starting off with a foul. His first fair toss went 65-5.50 and his third throw was 61-4.25. Kizirian went over 65 feet in his last three attempts, including his best mark (67-4.25) on the fifth toss. Nike’s AG Kruger won the weight throw at 77-9.25.

Jones competed in the high jump and tied for seventh with two others. He made it over on his first attempt at 6-11.50, but missed all three tries at 7-1.50. Nike’s Erik Kynard had the best jump at 7-6.50.

A few other Buffs stayed closer to home on Saturday and competed at the Joe Davies Open at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. Kelsey English recorded a personal best after recording a jump of 5-10.75 and won the event by more than seven inches as the runner-up finishing with a mark of 5-3.

Brittany Lewis and Emily Hunsucker also won their respective events. Lewis leaped 19-0 to win the long jump by just .25 inches and Hunsucker recorded a personal best by two inches in the weight throw, finishing with a mark of 57-9.

Junior Eileen Gehring competed on Friday night at the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln, Neb. after missing last weekend’s competition due to a concussion. The tune-up worked out well for her as she won the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 54.69 seconds, just .02 seconds off her personal best.

The Buffs are back in action next weekend, Feb. 28-March 1, at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Seattle.
