BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s tennis team battled, but fell to No. 1 UCLA, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Facility.

The Buffaloes drop to 0-4 in Pac-12 play and 7-8 overall, while the Bruins improve to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

"UCLA is definitely deserving of the number one ranking,” head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “They are playing really top tennis right now. We came out and fought hard.

“Today was definitely a lesson for our players to continue to see what we're striving and what we're challenging them to get to. And you know, I think in several positions, we did a great job of hanging in there with them and going shot-for-shot, so overall, obviously UCLA is a great team, but we'll look forward to have our individual shots again in Ojai in a couple of weeks."

UCLA started the morning session off with its No. 1 and No. 6 nationally ranked doubles teams with 8-3 (at No. 1 doubles) and 8-1 (No. 2 doubles) scores, then took three of the next six singles positions, all in straight sets. Three of the six other singles matches did not finish.

CU falls to 0-3 all-time against the No. 1 ranked teams (UCLA, twice; Baylor, the other).

The Buffs remain home for the final three matches of slate taking on No. 16 California (March 23, 11 a.m.), No. 9 Stanford (March 24, 11 a.m.), then close out the spring home season against non-conference Tulane, March 28 at 11 a. m.
