BOULDER - The University of Colorado men's basketball team has earned the No. 8 seed in the South Region of the 2014 NCAA Tournament and will play No. 9 seed Pittsburgh in a second round game on Thursday, March 20 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.

Colorado, 23-11 overall, finished tied for third in the final Pac-12 Conference standings. The Buffaloes were the No. 5 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament and advanced to the semifinal round of a league championship for the third time in the last four seasons (includes 2011 Big 12 Championship).

Pittsburgh, out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, is 25-9 overall also finishing fifth in the final ACC standings.

The winner of Thursday’s game would play either overall No. 1 seed Florida or a pair of No. 16 seeds Albany (18-14) or Mount St. Mary’s (16-16) on Saturday. Albany and Mount St. Mary's play in a first round game Tuesday in Dayton, Ohio.

For the first time in program history, Colorado will make a third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Buffaloes make their 13th overall trip to the “Big Dance” which includes two Final Fours (1942 & ’55). Colorado is 10-14 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

Initially the Buffs didn't have record of a game between the two schools, but Pittsburgh did.  After research Monday morning, the game was found to have occured, a 25-23 Pittsburgh win in Denver on Dec. 26, 1931.

The Buffs late Sunday learned the game will begin at 11:40 a.m. MT and be televised on TBS. General public tickets are available here for 2nd and 3rd round games.
