LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Colorado soccer team wrapped up the spring season here Saturday, tying former Big 12 rival Nebraska and defeating Nebraska Omaha to remain undefeated in 2014 play. The Buffaloes conclude the spring with a 6-0-2 record and are 19-1-3 in spring play under head coach Danny Sanchez.
CU first faced former conference foe Nebraska. The teams had not met since their final year in the Big 12 (CU left for the Pac-12 and NU left for the Big Ten after the 2010 season). Their regular season series was left in a 7-7-2 tie, and things would remain evenly matched in their 2014 meeting.
Nebraska just edged Colorado in shots six to five, but the Buffs put four of theirs on goal to NU’s one. CU also had four more corner shots (five to one). NU’s keeper made the Buffs work at the net, grabbing four saves. Nebraska scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute. CU tied things up when Darcy Jerman put one in off a penalty kick, pushing a 1-1 tie that would hold for the remainder of the game.
Colorado had a resounding 3-0 win over Nebraska Omaha to end the day and the season. CU dominated on the offense, taking 15 shots, five of which were on goal, while limiting UNO to a single shot and zero corners.
Nikki Machalek scored first for the Buffs, assisted by Florida State transfer Kahlia Hogg in the 48th minute. Just 12 minutes later, CU added some insurance, with Brooke Rice connecting with Carly Bolyard. Hogg was at it again to end the game, scoring off an assist from Hannah Dearborn.
