GLASGOW -- Olympian Emma Coburn (Crested Butte, Colorado) etched her name in the record books Saturday, breaking the American record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Diamond League meeting in Glasgow. Coburn crossed in 9:11.42 to set a new personal best and take the AR.

Coburn broke former Colorado teammate Jenny Simpson’s previous American record of 9:12.50, set in 2009 at the World Championships in Berlin. Coburn finished as the runner-up in the race Saturday, turning in the 11th-fastest time in history.

Coburn is a two-time USATF Outdoor Champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and also won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. She is a two-time NCAA Champion in the event.
