Ostensen and Nordh Race to CU Athlete of the Week Honors

BOULDER—University of Colorado Skiers Jeseper Ostensen (sophomore) and Carolina Nordh (sophomore), were named Athletes of the Week for the week of January 5-11.  This is the first award of the career for both of the skiers. 

 

            Ostensen, a Hosle, Norway (Eikeli) native, lead the Buffs in the UAA and Seawolf invitationals in Alaska.  Ostensen, led the first two Nordic men’s 1-2-3 sweeps by CU skiers in 47 years, and helped CU to a win in the UAA meet and a third place finish in the Seawolf meet.  In the UAA Invitational Ostensen finished the 10k Nordic course with a first place time of 28:07.1.  Ostensen, then finished the 15k course in fifth place with a time of 41:26.3.  The Buffs finished with 542 combined team points to finish atop the leader-board of the UAA Invitational.  Ostensen, once again earned himself a first place finish in the Seawolf Invitational, this time finishing the 15k course in a time of 41:52.6.  On the 10k course Ostensen raced to a third place finish with a time of 26:20.8, helping the Buffs to their third place finish.

 

            Nordh, a Sundbyberg, Sweden (Ostersund) native, skiing in her first races for the Buffaloes as a collegian helped CU to a win in the UAA meet and a third place finish in the Seawolf meet.  In the UAA Invitational Nordh completed the slalom course in a time of 1:41.20, and the giant slalom course in 1:41.59.  At the Seawolf Invitational Nordh raced to a sixth place finish on the slalom with a time of 1:38.98, and a second place finish on the giant slalom with a time of 1:47.53.   

         

Others nominated for this week’s award were Cory Higgins (men’s basketball), and Brittany Blythe (women’s basketball).

 

Men’s Basketball:  Cory Higgins, Sophomore, Danville, Calif.

Higgins averaged 17.5 point and eight rebounds per game leading the Colorado men's basketball team to a 1-1 record last week.  Higgins recorded his second career double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds leading the Buffaloes to 65-52 home win over Western State. He also scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 70-67 road loss at SMU.  He also averaged 3.5 assists and two steals per game. Higgins also improved his CU and Big 12 record making all nine of his free throws upping his record to 45-straight free throws over. He also averaged 38.5 minutes and shot .571 from the field (12-of-21).

 

Women’s Basketball:  Brittany Blythe, Sophomore, San Mateo, Calif.

Blythe recorded a career-high 12 points in the Buffs Big 12 Conference opener loss to the No. 6/5 Lady Bears of Baylor, 63-50.  All of Blythe’s 12 points came off of her career-best 4 three pointers.  Blythe ended the night shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arch.
