General Information

The University of Colorado is located in Boulder, Colo. - approximately 25 miles from Denver. The enrollment at the University is over 29,000 students, and more than 2,500 courses in 150 fields of study are offered. The University of Colorado is a member of the Pac-12 Conference and fields 16 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's athletic teams, growing to 17 with the addition of women's lacrosse for the 2013-14 season..

The Athletic Equipment Office is headed by J.T. Galloway, Assistant Athletic Director/Equipment & Licensing, and consists of four Assistant Equipment Managers and approximately 20 student equipment managers.

The University of Colorado Athletic Equipment Office is charged with managing one of the largest Footwear/Apparel agreements in the Country, with Nike providing footwear, equipment and apparel to each of the 16 intercollegiate programs. Colorado has been associated with Nike in the Football program since 1988, and with all 16 programs since 1995.

The Athletic Equipment Office is also involved with a great deal of pre-production innovation projects with Nike, and does advanced product testing in many categories of Footwear, as well as numerous apparel and equipment projects, including the "Nike Cooling top" - geared toward exploring innovative and advanced methods of keeping athletes cool.

Facilities

The Dal Ward Athletic Center was built following the 1990 National Championship football season. Dal Ward boasts 92,000 square feet which includes academic, sports medicine and weight training centers; a full service kitchen and daily dining area; an auditorium; men's and women's locker rooms; a lounge; and offices for athletic administration and coaches.

The Dal Ward Athletic Center is home to one of the two athletic equipment offices at Colorado. The Dal Ward equipment room, located on the B1 level of the Dal Ward Athletic Center, handles the daily operation of the football program and all olympic sports except for men's and women's basketball and volleyball.  They also manage varsity awards for all of the athletes at Colorado. The main office features an equipment room, of just under 2000 sq. ft, and an auxilliary equipment/laundry room of roughly 750 sq. ft, along with offices.

The second Equipment Office resides at the Coors Events Center, and manages footwear, equipment and apparel for both basketball programs and volleyball at Colorado.  The Events Center Equipment Office is operated during the Volleyball, and Basketball seasons, and is managed as a satellite facility for the Equipment Staff.

Student Manager Program

The University of Colorado Athletic Equipment Office offers practical and enjoyable experience to a limited number of students who are either interested in the field of equipment management, or simply wish to work closely with any of those programs requiring student intern help.  Responsibilities include day to day practice management, game day logistics, laundry, equipment issue and retrieval, team travel, support of coaching staff, and various other duties.  Student managers work closely with the Coaches and Athletes in their sport, often creating unique opportunities for themselves.  Student managers are paid on a bi-weekly stipend, and work under the supervision of one of the Assistant Equipment Managers.  Positions are available in Football, Men's and Women's Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer, as well as administrative positions in both of the Dal Ward Equipment Offices.  Hours vary according to the playing and practice seasons, as well as by sport.  Some team travel is required in every position except the administrative positions.

Practical Knowledge:

Students interested in applying for one of the Equipment Office Student Manager positions need only have an interest in athletics, ability to multitask, and reasonable athletic ability, as some of the practice management tasks require some athletic ability.  Most of the skills required are subtle, and you will be trained in all areas necessary.  The ability to follow direction, pay attention to detail, and enjoy yourself are fundamental.

Applications are accepted year round, with positions usually coming open at different times.  Football managers are usually interviewed and placed during the Spring Semester, starting on a limited basis in the spring, and full-time at the beginning of Fall Camp, usually around the first week in August.  Basketball positions are usually interviewed and placed in the spring, with a beginning timeframe of early Fall, with limited involvement in September and full time beginning around October 15.  Volleyball and Soccer are filled usually at the conclusion of the current manager's term, which varies according to graduation etc.  If you are interested in applying to the program download the Student Manager Application.
