u Scoring Streaks. CU added to its school record consecutive game scoring streak, extending it to 190; that is the longest streak in the Big 12 Conference and the seventh longest in the nation. CU has scored in 104 straight games at Folsom Field and in all 69 in Big 12 Conference play.
u PK Mason Crosby. His 60-yard field goal in the second quarter was a school record, wiping out the 23-year old mark of 58 yards set by Jerry Hamilton, also against
--The NCAA has no way of checking, but a quick “Google” search indicates that Crosby’s 60-yard field goal is likely the longest in college football this season.
--With his 54-yard field goal right before halftime, he became the first player in CU history to make two 50-plus yard field goals in the same game. That gave him four on the season, also a CU record, as the old season mark was two, held by several; it’s also a career record for 50-plus field goals, as the old mark was three held by Dave DeLine and Jim Harper.
--The four field goals he made was a career-high (he’s now 10-of-13 on the year); the CU single game record is five by Jeremy Aldrich vs. Kansas in 1999; this is the ninth time a Buff has made four in a game. The four field goals added to 185 yards (28, 60, 54, 33), topping the old 4-made in a game best of 162 by Mark Zetterberg against Nebraska in 1976 (50,46,37,29). Aldrich’s five added to 220 yards.
u Weird Stat of the Day. Because of the two Iowa State fumbles on punts and the Cyclones’ interception return for a touchdown, Colorado had 9 possessions in the first half to just 5 for ISU.
u TB Bobby Purify (13-69 rushing, 2-20 receiving). He became the sixth Colorado Buffalo to eclipse the 2,500-yard mark in career rushing, as he now stands sixth all-time with 2,529. He is just 15 yards shy of the top five, as the No. 5 spot is held by James Mayberry with 2,544. He is closing in on 3,000 career all-purpose yards, as his 89 today upped his total to 2,953, which moved him from No. 15 into No. 11 on that list today; he passed Billy Waddy (2,887), Cortlen Johnson (2,890), Merwin Hodel (2,910) and Rae Carruth (2,945).
u Iowa State was 0-of-5 when penetrating the CU 20 (or the red zone); CU has now allowed just seven scores and five touchdowns this season in 19 times the opponent has cracked the Buff 20.
u Colorado has now won 20 of the last 21 games with Iowa State, the first time the Buffs own that many wins in that span against any team; the closest is a 20-1-1 mark CU had in a 22-game span against Wyoming.
u Colorado had scored 20 or more points in 12 straight games, but now has scored sub-20 in the last three. The last time Buffs failed to score 20 in three consecutive games was a four-game streak in 1998.
u P John Torp. The Ray Guy Award candidate punted six times for 307 yards, or a 51.2 average, on the heels of a 5-52.2 effort last week. It was the 18th best gross punting day in Colorado history, of which Torp now owns three of, all this season (three or more punts). On the year, he has now punted 31 times for a 46.1 average, with 11 inside-the-20; he had two kicks today inside-the-CU 25, both going 61 yards; on the year, he has nine punts inside the Buff 25 for a 52.3 average.
