AT COLORADO: 2010 (Sr.)-He saw action in all 12 games on special teams, handling the short snapper duties on the FG/PAT unit. He snapped every play (50) on the unit without incident. He was just the third short snapper at Colorado since 2001, following in the footsteps of Greg Pace (2002-05) and Justin Drescher (2006-09). His 639-pound squat was the 10th best on the team in spring conditioning, as was his 361-pound bench press.
2009 (Jr.)-He did not see any action but dressed for all six home games. He joined the team as a walk-on prior to spring practices after transferring to CU from Northern Colorado.
2008 (Soph.)-Enrolled at the University of Colorado during the fall semester but was not a part of the football program.
AT NORTHERN COLORADO (2006, 2007/Fr., Fr.-RS)-He redshirted his true freshman season at Northern Colorado in 2006. In 2007, he started all 12 games for the Bears and compiled 37 tackles, including seven for losses and three-and-a-half quarterback sacks. He also had two quarterback hurries, one pass break-up, two forced fumbles and one blocked kick.
HIGH SCHOOL-As a senior, earned All-Colorado and first-team 5A State mention by the Denver Post and was a second-team All-State selection by the Rocky Mountain News at Cherry Creek under coach Greg Critchett. He also earned first-team All-Centennial League after compiling 95 tackles and five quarterback sacks. As a junior, he was named honorable mention All-State when he had 105 tackles and six sacks. He lists the biggest moment of his high school career as a sack he had against Columbine to end their season.
ACADEMICS-He is majoring in English at Colorado and is on schedule to graduate in May 2011.
PERSONAL-He was born March 14, 1988. Hobbies include writing. His father, Joe Sr., played football at Tulane before professional stints in the NFL, CFL and USFL, including with the Denver Gold in 1983. He played center for the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL in 1981 and with the Denver Gold and the San Antonio Gunslingers of the USFL in 1984-85 (he played with Andy Poremba on the Gold, the father of CU teammate Tony Poremba; and with former CU head coach Rick Neuheisel on the Gunslingers: in fact the two were the C-QB combo for two seasons) before playing for the NFL's Buffalo Bills during the 1987 strike season; he was also signed by the Kansas City Chiefs.
