AT COLORADO: This Season (Fr.) -- Projected as a quarterback for his true freshman year in college, but will most likely redshirt. He joined the team as a walk-on the first day of classes.
HIGH SCHOOL -- As a senior, he earned first-team all-state honors (4A) at quarterback, and was a PrepStar preseason All-American. He completed 118 of 248 passes for 2,100 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior, with a long completion of 70 yards. He heated up in the state playoffs, as he was 36-of-61 for 514 yards and four touchdowns in two playoff games, leading Grand Junction to the state quarterfinals for the first time in nine years. He switched to offense from the secondary, as he started at cornerback his junior year, when he averaged three tackles a game with 10 passes broken up and two fumble recoveries. Top career games included throwing for 201 yards and four TDs on just 6-of-9 passing against Lewis-Palmer, and a 28-of-42 for 301 yards and three scores in the state Q-finals against Thunder Ridge. GJHS was 8-4 his senior season and 5-6 his junior year under coach Shawn Marsh. In the summer of 2002, he transferred to Grand Junction from Montrose, where he had played one year on the varsity as a sophomore. He lettered four times as a prep in basketball and three times in track (hurdles).
ACADEMICS -- He is interested in aerospace engineering as his major at Colorado. A member of the National Honor Society in high school, he was a two-time Academic All-State team member in earning Grand Junction’s Top Male Math Student Award. He carried a 3.95 grade point average for his core requirements as a prep, and won the Principal’s Award as the outstanding Grand Junction senior for 2003-04.
