Welcome to Buffaloes Summer Break where CUBuffs.com catches up with Colorado student-athletes and coaching staff members throughout the summer "off season."

Today's installment comes from sophomore right side/outside hitter Neira Ortiz Ruiz. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ortiz Ruiz averaged one kill per set and had 10 total blocks as a freshman for the Buffaloes in 2011. She is a veteran of the Puerto Rican National Volleyball team, having been involved in the program since age 14.

What is your favorite summer time activity?
Spending time with my family.

Favorite vacation destination and why?
Dominican Republic, it’s fun and interesting.

What was your first summer job?
I usually do not work in the summer because of volleyball traveling with my National Team.

What is the most important activity you engage in during the summer months that helps prepare you for the next season?
Working out and eating healthy.

If they offered a class in _____________________ at Colorado during the summer I would surely get an A+
Being a better person.

What is your favorite moment here at Colorado so far?
Seeing snow for the first time.

The thing that surprised you the most about the move from the Big 12 to the Pac-12 Conferences is:
The difference of the abilities of Pac-12 teams.

Best advice for youth that are beginning to compete in athletics.
Never give up and always be bigger than your circumstances.

If you could play a single game/event for a CU team that is not your sport, which would it be and why?
Basketball; to see if under pressure I might be good at it.

If you could bring one famous person to Colorado for a day-long tour who would it be, and what would you do with them?
I would bring Madonna and I would go with her on a hike.
