Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe

“Well that was a tough one for us, Wyoming is a good basketball team. They run their offense really well; we struggled for a lot of the game getting defensive stops. I thought the difference in the game was in the second half when we got multiple stops in a row and scores on the offensive end. I really liked how unselfish our team was and how we got the ball to the player with the hot hand. I told our team, I think it is the first time sense we have been here, that we have been able to recognize that and been unselfish enough, to keep go ahead and go to the well until it was dry. I really was impressed with our guards, posts and how we came together in the last eight minutes in the game.”

On Playing Well In The Second Half
“I hope we cannot go back to last season (second half struggles) too often because we are a completely different team. We are creating new ways that our team is going to play, and our new identity. There are some things where they are consistent like in rebounding, playing defense, run in transition but there are some things that maybe change from year to year depending on your team. But I think we have come out with the right focus in the second half, and we have some confidence in us. I think that is where your experience comes into play. We have experienced players out on the floor that have been in those situations, and they have been able to provide whatever the team needs, at whatever point. I think you definitely saw that tonight.”

On Learning Something New Each Game
“In your non-conference schedule you want to try and get as many different scenarios as you can, as many different offenses as you can. The goal of the non-conference is to prepare you for conference. I think we are getting to the point where we are starting to get that with this year’s schedule. But I really feel that this year’s non-conference games we will be a lot more prepared for things we see down the road, and we have some really good games coming up that will continue to build confidence help get us ready.”

On Getting Points Off Of Turnovers
“When I saw the 27 points off of their turnovers I thought that was the turning point. I thought we did a nice job of upping our pressure in the second half. I thought that was one of the biggest differences, we didn’t let things get by us as much. And we executed on their turnovers which was great. I thought we did a nice job of taking care of the ball. We didn’t have very many turnovers in the last couple minutes which was good.”

On Chucking Performing Well
“Chucky has eased her way back in, and it has been good to see her do that, it has been good to see her play with the flow. I thought tonight was her night, how the match up on her and how they were defending her, she was much more aggressive, and we needed her to be because they were taking other things away. I thought this was one of Chucky’s break out games, with a double double which she is accustomed to having. That is who she is, and she is her best when she is playing very active both on the rebounds and getting to the rim and scoring, and I thought she had some very nice assists as well.”

On Arielle Against Sewell
“Well Chaundra has a lot of experience, she has played every year sense she has been there; she played a lot as a freshman. And I have seen her get a lot better, she has kind of changed her game sense she has been there. So for us to play somebody like that was huge, and Jen had her time on her, and Rachel did as well. She did a great job of crashing the offensive glass; we had a tough time keeping her off of the glass. I thought when she when she went out in the game that really hurt them and we capitalized on that.  I think it is good, the better players that our players can play against means we are getting better, so I thought that was huge.”

On Loosing Ashley Wilson
“We missed Ashley’s energy off of the bench; I kept wanting to put her in. I think as a coach you start to get your rotations going and you know what the team needs, and you know what the players need. The thing about Ashley being out, it makes other players to step up, and that is why every player needs to be ready. I thought Lauren Huggins did a great job coming in and providing a spark that we needed, and she continues to get better and works hard. She stays steady and that is what we are looking for when players go out or if something like that happens. So I’m excited to see who steps up and who fills that role.

Colorado Players

Chucky Jeffery, Jr., G
On Whether The Team Came Out Slow
“Yeah we came out a little slow.  We just weren’t hitting our shots.  We weren’t hitting a lot of our outside shots and not really recognizing to get it inside.  After we figured it out, we got it going.”

On What Changed In The Second Half
“We just know that we have to come out in the first four minutes [of the second half].  It sets the tone in the second half.  It was kind of close at half time, but we were able to pull it out. The second half is a good half.  That’s where we recognize things [that we have to improve].”

On Getting A Double-Double
“It’s all getting back into the game flow; I caught a good rhythm early on.  It’s going pretty well I think it was good for me to have a good game like that.”

On What Was Different About Wyoming
“We’ve seen a lot of good things from good teams.  It’s good because in the Pac-12 we’ll be seeing a lot of different things from different teams.  They drove on us a lot.  They have some good three point shooters. They ran a lot of pick and pops, which we haven’t seen a lot, but we adjusted and got the win.”

Jen Reese, So., F
On What Was Different About Wyoming
“Yeah, Wyoming’s a good team.  I give them props.  Coming in, they come out and played their game.  But we came out and got the win.”

On Her Performance Tonight
“Yeah, my teammates gave me good passes and I got good passes.  It feels great; I feel like this year we have a lot more competition.  It’s been good to beat really good teams.”

Wyoming Head Coach Joe Legerski

On his team’s performance -
“At the pregame talk, we talked about playing at a very high level of aggressiveness for forty minutes. You have to. I thought we were able to do that. There was no giving up with this team. We fought back and we took the lead in the second half. We just couldn’t hang onto it. CU was able to put tremendous pressure on us defensively. However, I’m very pleased with how we competed up until the very end.”

On bouncing back after losing their first game of the season -
“We don’t have a lot of time and that’s by design. We’re going to have to bounce back in conference play. You’re going to have to put everything on the line and then come back and do it again a few days later. Tomorrow, we will have a light practice, lots of film work. This group has been around. They understand what it takes to come back.”
