BOULDER - Soccer's Kayla Millar was named CU's Athlete of
the Week on Tuesday for her performance during the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4. CU's Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Silk®,
Horizon® and International Delight®.
The senior goalkeeper had a leading performance in her final game as a
Buffalo. After starting goalkeeper Annie
Brunner took a hard dive into the goal post to grab a save in the 35th minute,
Millar entered the game and played a season-high 76 minutes. Millar didn't allow a goal and made four major
saves - including several late in the match - in a 1-1 tie against rival Utah on
Friday.
Millar, a Broomfield, Colo., native and transfer from UC-Colorado
Springs, finished her career with 35 saves, ranking her 10th all-time at CU.
Also nominated for this week's award: freshman Alexis Austin (volleyball), junior Jenny Coleman (women's golf), and junior Brittany Wilson (women's basketball).
Austin led the volleyball team with 19 kills last weekend in losses to
Washington State and No. 8 Washington.
She led CU in both matches, recording 10 kills against WSU and nine
versus Washington. Austin averaged 3.17
kills, 1.50 digs, 0.33 aces and 3.50 points per set while hitting .143 over the
two games.
Coleman shot a 7-over par 76-72-76--223 to finish tied for 36th in the
women's golf's final event of the fall season, the Alamo Invitational in San
Antonio, Texas. She had one even par
round, giving her six rounds at or under par this season. Her four rounds
under par already puts her in the top 10 in CU history for a season and gives
her 13 for her career, tied for third most in the school record books.
Brittany Wilson scored a game-high 16 points as the women's basketball
team defeated Western State Colorado in an exhibition game on Friday. Wilson shot 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-5
from 3-point range. She also tied for
the team lead with seven rebounds and two steals while also dishing out four
assists. Colorado officially opens its
season on Sunday Nov. 11 against Idaho.
