WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Seniors Andy Wacker and Katie Hartman were named the 2011-12 Tom Hansen Conference Medal Winners for University of Colorado on Monday.

Wacker is a member of cross country/track and field while Hartman is part of the skiing team.

Hartman closed out her career with 11 top 10 finishes in the 13 races she finished on the season. She won the Giant Slalom Qualifier as part of the 2012 Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitational.  She also had three podium appearances and one race victory. In her career as one of the top alpine skiers at any level in the United States, she had 54 career races and finished 47 of them with 36 top 10 performances, eight podiums and three race victories. She won CU’s first-ever Gold Medal at the World University Games in the Super G before injuring her knee and missing the rest of the 2011 season. She was nominated to be the NCAA Woman of the Year and finished her career as a three-time All-American and two time Academic All-American.

Wacker wrapped up his senior year by helping the Buffs win the first ever Pac-12 Championship in any sport with the men’s cross country team, placing sixth at the meet. He earned his second All-American honor with a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Championships while helping the Buffs place third. Wacker was also named to the All-Pac-12 first team for his performances in 2011. On the track, he was a four-time All-Big 12 performer, twice in the 5,000 (2010 and 2011) and twice in the 10,000 (2010 and 2011). His personal best of 13:41.49 in the outdoor 5k is the 10th best on CU’s all-time performers list and his mark of 29:10.89 in the 10k ranks 11th on the CU’s performers chart. Wacker earned numerous academic honors, including Pac-12 All-Academic first team and Academic Big 12 first team selections.

Conference Medals are awarded annually to each Pac-12 school’s outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on a combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics, and leadership.
