Buffs Continue Strong Showing In California

WALNUT, Calif. - The University of Colorado track and field team had another busy day competing at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.

Jessica Tebo, formerly Pixler, made her 2012 debut at the Mt. SAC Relays in the elite section of the 1,500-meter run. She clocked a time of 4 minutes, 15.15 seconds to finish fifth overall. Tebo's time ranks sixth on the all-time CU performer's list and is also the 10th fastest in school history.

Shalaya Kipp also made her 2012 outdoor debut, running in the 5,000-meter run. Kipp finished with a personal record of 16:00.50; placing 12th overall in the Olympic development section.

Colorado's sprinters had a good showing as well. Joe Morris placed sixth in the 200, crossing the finish in 20.91. He also helped the 4x400-meter relay to a third-place finish. The relay, made up of Tyler Baker, Kyle MacIntosh, Morris and Reimer, finished the race third overall with a time of 3:10.34. They were less than three seconds behind the winning relay, Minnesota, which finished in 3:07.55. MacIntosh had a good finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish eighth overall in 52.20.

Eileen Gehring led CU's women's sprinters. She was 10th in the 400; crossing the finish line in 54.21. Bridget Sweeney was 26th overall with a mark of 56.47. Those two, along with Brianne Beemer and Lindsy Mattson, placed second in the 4x400 relay. The team finished in 3:40.40, just .38 behind North Dakota State (3:40.02). Beemer also competed in the 400-meter hurdles and was 11th overall with a time of 1:00.09.

The Buffs also received a top-10 performance in the field from Mark Jones. Jones cleared 6-09 in the high jump to place 10th.

CU also had a group of athletes competing at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Blake Theroux raced to a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:06.76) and Dillon Shije was the runner-up in the 5,000 (14:41.77). Brittany Lewis had the best performance for the CU women. She was third in the long jump (18-08.50).

The Buffs will compete at the Beach Invitational on Saturday.
