BOULDER - Women's Nordic skier Joanne Reid and men's track and field sprinter Joe Morris received CU Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday for their play during the week of Jan 7-13. CU's Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Silk®, Horizon® and International Delight®.

Reid started her season off with a bang, winning the 15-kilometer freestyle race and finishing second in the 5K classical race at CU's Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitational in Steamboat Springs over the weekend.  The win, which was Reid's third of her career race and second in the freestyle race, was a crucial part in helping the Buffs comes from behind to win the meet as a team.

Her second place finish in the classical discipline gives her 11 podium appearances and 18 top five finishes in 29 career races.

Morris began the 2013 track and field season with a brilliant start by winning the 60-meter race and breaking his own CU record in the event at the U.S. Air Force Academy All-Comers Meet on Saturday afternoon, crossing the finish line in 6.57 seconds.

The time was 6-tenths of a second faster than his previous school record of 6.63, which he set on Jan. 22, 2011 in his first meet as a Buff. Morris currently holds the top time in the nation. With the altitude conversion, it currently is 6.61 and is 0.03 seconds faster than a trio of runners tied at 6.64. Morris also had the fastest time in the 200, clocking a personal best time of 21.01, which is the eighth fastest time this season.

Also nominated for this week's award were Kelsey English (track and field), Chucky Jeffery (woman's basketball), Rune Oedegaard (men's skiing) and Josh Scott (men's basketball).

English won the high jump for the women's track and field team at the USAFA All-Comers Meet with a personal record of five feet and eight inches. English was the only jumper to clear the mark, doing so on her final attempt. She is now tied for eighth on CU's performers list with the mark.

Chucky Jeffery showcased the range of her game this week in helping the women's basketball team to a regular season sweep of Utah. She averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the two games. In the 10-point home win, Jeffery scored a personal and team-season high 28 points, the second most of her career. She added 12 rebounds and logged her 23rd career double-double - her third of the season - in the game.

Oedegaard won the 20-kilometer men's classical Nordic ski race at CU's Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational on Saturday and followed that up with a runner-up performance in the 10K freestyle race the next day.  He now has six victories in just 14 career races and the pair of podium appearances gives him 11 in his career.

Scott averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds over a two-game span in men's basketball team to a 1-1 week at the Coors Events Center, defeating USC 66-60 and falling to UCLA 78-75. Scott scored a team-high 14 points with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win over the Trojans. Two days later, he scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds against the Bruins.  It was the 13th double-digit game for Scott this season and his eighth game where he grabbed seven or more rebounds in a game.
