BOULDER—Alex Stewart, a sophomore who just completed her
first season as part of the University of Colorado women’s golf team, is
leaving the program, head coach Anne Kelly announced Sunday. Stewart informed Kelly that she wishes to
finish her education closer to home.
Stewart transferred to Colorado after her freshman season
playing at Purdue. She played in 36 of
37 rounds on the season and led the Buffs with a 73.81 stroke average. She earned medalist honors at the Sugar Bowl and
had six top 10 finishes on the season.
“It’s disappointing but we certainly wish Alex well with
all of her future endeavors,” Kelly said. “We will move forward as a program
and I’m very excited about the team we will have in place for 2012-13.”
Stewart was homeschooled and lists Elk Grove, Calif., as
her home town. Her family recently moved
to Oklahoma City.
