COLORADO SPRINGS - University of Colorado sophomore Michala Hedelund Jensen picked up a pair of singles victories advancing to her respective singles semifinals helping the CU tennis team generate seven singles tallies on the first day of the 2009 United States Air Force Invitational.

CU joins Air Force along with Colorado State, Denver, Harvard, Illinois State, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming at the 11-team invite that will be played through Sunday.

Hedelund Jensen has now won five consecutive singles matches all in straight sets. She defeated Rebecca Berger (Wyoming) 6-3, 6-3 and Kristin Eggleston (New Mexico) 6-1, 6-1 in the Delta 4 Bracket.

Elsewhere in singles play, the Buffs received opening round wins from Monica Milewski, who defeated New Mexico's Ashley Bonner 6-1, 6-4 for her fifth straight win of the fall, in addition picking up her 70th career singles win; Abbie Probert won her third match of the young season defeating Julia Zubkova (Illinois State) 6-2, 6-3; and Allison Wahba rallied from a set down, to edge Mahdi Besovic of Oregon 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, advancing to her bracket semifinal. Wahba has now won four straight matches.

Milewski's 70 career singles wins ranks 17th on the school's all-time list. She becomes the sixth CU woman in this century to reach the 70-win plateau.

All four CU women (Hedelund Jensen, Milewski, Probert, Wahba) will play in their respective semifinal round on Saturday.

In round robin singles play, Madie Kern defeated Erin Conley (Air Force) 6-3, 7-5 for her third victory of the fall. Ania Anuszkiewicz achieved a 1-1 record on the day opening her Round of 16 bracket with a 6-1, 7-6(3) win over Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado State), however fell in the quarterfinal round.

Earlier in the day, three of the four CU doubles teams were victorious advancing to Saturday's quarters. Milewski and Hedelund Jensen teamed up for the first time in their career edging Ashley Bonner/Anya Villanueva of New Mexico, 8-5; and Anuszkiewicz and Probert improved to 2-1 over their career, defeating  Illinois State's Julia Zubkova/Franzi Steinhardt, 8-5.

Both CU duos are in opposite sides of the Doubles I bracket.

In the Bracket III doubles, CU's Kern is teamed with Wyoming Paloma Navarro and they edged Arianne Maack/Hannah Esker of Illinois State, 8-6.

Day two of the USAFA Invite begins with doubles on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and singles at 1:30 p.m.
