BERKELEY, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated Colorado, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex in the opening match of the 2010 ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

The loss drops the CU women to 1-2 on the season, while the Hornets (1-0) made their 2009 spring debut against Colorado.

The Hornets are eight-time Big Sky champions, in addition have earned eight-straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Sacramento took the early 1-0 lead securing the doubles point by taking two of three points. Katina Zheltova teamed up with sophomore Clarisse Baca on the top doubles court to clinch the doubles point as the pair defeated CU's senior duo of Camila Belassi and Melisa Esposito, 8-3.

The Hornets took a win at the second doubles court earlier as sophomores Tatsiana Kapshai and Maria Meliuk defeated senior Monica Milewski and sophomore Ania Anuszkiewicz, 8-2.

In singles matches, Baca got off the courts first as she defeated Colorado sophomore Michala Hedelund Jensen, 6-3, 6-0, to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead in the match. Kapshai finished next, for a 3-0 Sac State advantage as she took out Belassi, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.

Zheltova, the No. 26-ranked Hornet senior earned the fourth point to clinch the match for Sac State with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Milewski, No. 90-ranked player.

            Colorado will play No. 63 Utah (1-2) in Saturday's consolation match at Noon. The Utes dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 3 California.
