BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - University of Colorado sophomore Ashley Tiefel won her second singles match in as many days, winning her semifinal Singles Flight 4 match in three sets and advancing to Sunday's final on day two of the five-team Adidas Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana University.

Tiefel defeated Claudia Escribens of Purdue in three sets, 6-3, 0-6, 1-0(7). Tiefel improves her career record to 2-0 in three-set matches and tallied her fourth victory in five matches dating back to last year's fall season. She advances to Sunday's final against Purdue's Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum.

For the second straight day, Tiefel was the only CU player to claim victory on the singles court. Junior Winde Janssens and freshman Mazy Watrous each won their respective opening set, however both fell in three set super tie-breakers.

In doubles, Saturday's play turned out to be a better performance for the CU doubles teams splitting its six matches for a 3-3 record.

Janssens and freshman teammate Julyette Steur won a pair of matches in the consolation bracket defeating tandems from Indiana (Rubenstein/Sabacinski), 8-2, and from Kansas State (St. Hill/Kubickova), 8-5, then falling in the consolation finals to Indiana's Chupa/Klyczek, 9-7.

"Overall, it was a good day, much improved compared to yesterday (Friday)," said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. "We showed a lot of grit and heart today; and it's still early in the building process. Great improvement what we showed today and excited for the final singles match tomorrow to see if we can build on what we did today."

In other consolation doubles matches, Watrous and Carla Manzi Tenorio defeated Gomez/Erisman of Kansas State, 8-1. It was Watrous' first collegiate doubles win in a CU uniform. Manzi Tenorio/Watrous would later fall to IU's Rubenstein/Jayawickrema, 8-6.

Elsewhere, Tiefel teamed up with JoHanna Manningham of Notre Dame for a 1-1 record in Saturday's action defeating Kansas State's Gomez/Erisman, 8-1, then losing to IU's Rubenstein/Jayawickrema, 8-2

The final day of competition featuring CU, IU, Kansas State, Notre Dame and Purdue at the IU Tennis Center concludes Sunday.
